We’ve spoken a lot about what it means to be an athlete. We’ve also dealt with respecting the fact that each person has the right to choose how they exercise and demonstrate their athletic ability. But what about those who can’t choose? What about those of us who have lost the ability to move because of serious injury?
I come from a rugby playing background, and almost every rep I’ve ever pushed out has been with the idea of becoming a better player in mind. It’s a sport very close to my heart, and whether you’ve played it or not, I’m sure you can appreciate the training required and the bravery it takes to play the sport.
The Chris Burger Petro Jackson Fund does outstanding work in raising money for those rugby players who have been seriously injured whilst playing the sport. We, at Roark, have decided to do our bit to help these players.
‘Strength4Players’ is an initiative supported by Mens Health and Sports Illustrated, wherein anyone will be able to come to the gym and do a 25 minute workout to raise money for the Burger Jackson Fund mentioned above. The workout will take place on Saturday the 31st of March 2012.
You aren’t too old, too young, too fit or unfit to come in and give it a go!
The cost of the workout will be R50.00 per person and every person will perform the exact same workout. There will be prizes on offer, some serious and some not, but the all money raised will go to The Fund. You will also have the opportunity to donate money to the fund should you wish to do so.
Give some time and some sweat for those who would give anything to be able to exercise just one last time. We look forward to seeing you all at Roark Gym.
